PepperHarrow Farm, Lavender Field in Iowa

    IOWA, PLACES

July 4th weekend, 2020, my family and I decided it was time for a little escape. The 4th has always been a favorite holiday of mine because summer is in full swing. Many of my high school friends come home and we gather on blankets under the stars as we watch fireworks in our little hometown park.

This year, things are so much different with the pandemic. Our town parade and fireworks were canceled. But we didn’t let that stop us from getting out and exploring safely, away from crowds.

I fell in love with PepperHarrow flower farm from the moment I discovered it. The first time I went, I took my mom, niece, and nephew to check it out. I loved it so much, I went back the next weekend to buy a bouquet of flowers with my cousin.

    PepperHarrow Farm

PepperHarrow Farm, in Winterset, Iowa, is a boutique flower farm, on the outskirts of town. They grow lavender, sunflowers, Dahlias, and many other varieties. After doing a little digging on their website, I discovered they also rent their facility for weddings! They have a barn on their property and a carriage house perfect for an intimate garden wedding.

Both, the reception barn and carriage house are offered in their wedding packages. It’s in a great location, just off the Winterset square with a few great Bed & Breakfasts close by.

    Provence, and the French Countryside

I have always loved French Provincial architecture and design. It’s been my inspiration for my own interior space since I was old enough to decorate my bedroom at Mom and Dad’s. I dream about a farmhouse decorated in linen, antiques, and brass. Jenn and Adam’s colors and design in their carriage house and around their property take me right back to Provence.

Things to Do in Winterset, Iowa

Winterset is my favorite area of Iowa. I always see the prettiest sunsets here. There’s something about the way the fog sits on the valleys surrounding the covered bridges at dusk. I love the town of Winterset itself because of the Victorian homes. The architecture and history in Winterset were preserved so well. Just driving around to look at the beautifully restored homes from over 100 years ago, is a treat.

The covered bridges are probably the most well-known attraction in Winterset, thanks to the 1995 movie with Meryl Streep and Clint East Wood, “Bridges of Madison County”.

The bridges were built in the 1800s and are in great condition today. They are a piece of Iowa history that I love. Winterset is also the birthplace of a famous western movie star, John Wayne. You can still see the house where he was born. Winterset is also the location of theĀ Covered Bridges Winery, and the Winterset Cidery.

These are just a few of the many things to do in Winterset. There are also many festivals throughout the year.

    Iowa Getaway

If you’re looking for a quiet, historic, getaway, PepperHarrow, and Winterset is a great place for a rejuvenating escape into nature.

Lovely website and I love the lavender. Do you have wreaths, other items made of lavender now? Or in the fall? Thank you for your timely response.
